Silba is located southeast from Lošinj between the islands of Premuda and Olib, and it is one of the 18 inhabited islands of the Zadar archipelago. It is the furthest north island in Dalmatia, reason for being called, among seamen, the “border” or ”door to Dalmatia”. Silba has a surface area of 15 square kilometers, 8,3 km long and 3,3 km wide.
In the summer months the population multiplies due to the arrival of numerous tourists. The shores of the island cherish gravel coves and sandy beaches. Silba, along with the island of Mljet, is the most wooded Croatian island. Sources of drinking water have been found on the island. The nearest city on the coast is Zadar, at 30 knots distance.Silba is unique in many things. There are no cars and motorbikes on the island, while bicycles are very rarely seen. Peace and quiet rules over the island, which, in contact with the virgin nature, leads to an atmosphere of complete relaxation. The isalnd is ideal for families with small children.
Silba is embraced by a ring of picturesque sandy beaches and coves that can be reached by narrow lanes crossing the woods or along the rocky coast. The nearest beach from the locality is only at five minutes reach. The sea along the shores is shallow. Along the 25 kilometer long island coastline there are numerous lovely places for bathing in one of the most transparent seas on the Adriatic.
Žalić is the main port on the island. It is situated on the southeastern side of the island, at 300 meters from the center. Boats, ferryboats, and hydrofoils from Zadar, Pula, Rijeka and Mali Lošinj stop here. Island of Silba belongs to the group of smaller-size inhabited Croatian islands.
Silba can be reached from Zadar, Mali Losinj and Rijeka.
