Trogir is a historic town and harbour on the Adriatic coast in Split-Dalmatia County. The historic city of Trogir is situated on a small island between the Croatian mainland and the island of Čiovo. It lies 27 kilometres west of the city of Split.
The beautiful mediaeval town of Trogir is a very popular tourist destination so the best time to explore this ancient town is early in the morning, out of season if possible. Its cathedral is one of the most beautiful in Croatia and the winding streets boarded by tall stone houses are breathtaking. Trogir is listed in the register of UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage but is by no means a museum town.
The bays around Trogir hide beaches offering rest for the body and soul.Trogir, like many towns on the Dalmatian Coast, is a big draw to the rich and famous, and it is not unusual to see the boat of some celebrity stopping off here for lunch or for dinner. Trogir has a fascinating 2300 years of continuous urban tradition. Its rich culture was created under the influence of old Greeks, Romans, and Venetians. Trogir has a high concentration of palaces, churches, and towers, as well as a fortress on a small island and is the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex not only in the Adriatic, but in all of Central Europe.
